an imageThe Indian Thermodynamics Society came into existence in the year of 2001-2002, with its Head Quarters at Amritsar. This was the result of the earlier conferences organized in the area of the thermodynamics at Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

These conferences emphasized the need for the formation of such a Society to provide a common platform to strengthen research and teaching of Thermodynamics in India. Apart from its other activities the Society has been regularly organizing its annual National Conferences in different parts of the country at academic institutes actively engaged in research in thermodynamics. The Society has thus been able to provide a forum for the Indian Scientists to exchange their ideas and discuss the research work in various areas of thermodynamics and its applications. At present, the Society has more than two hundred life members.
